Mental breaks you can do in less than 10 minutes

Taking brief breaks during the working hours can help you refresh your brain and your body. Breaks can even increase your productivity and ability to make good work decisions, big and small.

Following are some tips for breaks you can do in less than 10 minutes. These are centered around those working from home right now, but they can be adapted for onsite campus life, too.

  • Reset the mood of your space. If you’re working at home, open up a window to get more air and light in, and/or crank the diffuser.
  • Play two or three of your favorite songs and move to the beat.
  • Get outside and do eight minutes of mindful walking or yoga/stretching.
  • Practice a guided breathing or meditation to reset.
  • Refill your glass of water and sit outside for a couple minutes of sunshine or fresh air.
  • Do a quick full-body stretch, then speed walk/run around the block/house.
  • Walk, curl up with or play a quick game with your pet!
  • Spend eight minutes talking or dancing with your kids.
  • Walk around barefoot in your yard and check on your plants or garden.
